World Tourism Day 2025:
Tourism and Sustainable Transformation

Tourism was in the spotlight as a powerful lever for structural transformation at the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3).

UN Tourism, the United Nations agency promoting the development of responsable, sustainable and accessible tourism, and E1 Series, the world's first and only all-electric raceboat championship, have signed an agreement to promote sustainable mobility and tourism through global sport.

UN Tourism, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), concluded a successful three-day Regional Workshop on Sustainable Gastronomy Tourism. The event brought together over 70 stakeholders from across the Pacific to co-create gastronomy tourism experiences and itineraries that deepen the connection between agrifood systems and the tourism sector.

UN Tourism welcomed senior tourism officials from across the Asia-Pacific region to put the spotlight on the vital link between tourism and culture in building resilient and inclusive destinations.

UN Tourism has launched the Safe Destinations Challenge to identify innovative solutions that position the sector as a driver of resilience, safety, and sustainability. The initiative focuses initially on Europe, which welcomed 747 million international tourists in 2024, representing around 58% of the global figures.
