
CONCOURS DE STARTUPS TOURISTIQUES DE ONU TOURISME
Le département d’ONU Tourisme chargé de l’innovation, de l’éducation et des investissements organise des concours de jeunes pousses (start-up) et d’entreprises gazelles (scale-up) et des défis de l’innovation élevés au rang de projets « phares », qui servent de levier stratégique au sein de la chaîne de valeur du tourisme. Ces initiatives représentent une pierre angulaire de la stratégie globale d’ONU Tourisme pour renforcer l’écosystème touristique mondial, dans le droit fil de la priorité 4 de notre programme de travail, à savoir stimuler l’investissement et étendre l’innovation. Au titre de cette priorité, les interventions visent à élargir l’accès aux financements et à accélérer l’adoption de nouveaux modèles d’exploitation, de façon à produire des avancées significatives dans l’ensemble du secteur.
Nos concours de start-up et de scale-up et défis de l’innovation sont soigneusement conçus dans l’optique de repérer et de soutenir les start-up et les innovateurs offrant des solutions prêtes à être mises en œuvre, qui permettent d’accélérer la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable grâce à leur impact technologique et social. Ces activités favorisent l’intégration de solutions de pointe à l’intérieur de la filière tourisme dans des domaines aussi variés que la durabilité, l’hébergement, la gastronomie ou le sport, entre autres, pour arriver à des destinations intelligentes en s’appuyant sur la technologie la plus poussée, comme les outils d’IA.
De plus, ONU Tourisme soutient activement les États membres en proposant des appels à contributions spécifiques auprès des entrepreneurs de leur région. Ces appels profitent aux écosystèmes touristiques nationaux en permettant de repérer de nouveaux talents pour affronter les problèmes les plus pressants et d’instaurer un environnement propice à l’innovation et à la croissance. Par ces initiatives, ONU Tourisme cherche à obtenir un effet de catalyseur de l’investissement et de l’innovation dans tout le paysage touristique mondial, en assurant un développement durable, la création d’emplois de qualité, l’égalité des genres et de plus larges débouchés économiques dans le secteur.

UN Tourism Bahamas Sustainable Island Challenge
UN Tourism and The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation are joining forces in this startup challenge to source the most sustainable, innovative and disruptive business models to provide answers and smart solutions to the complex challenges the Bahamas is facing as a Small Island Developing Island State (SID).

UN Tourism Safe Destinations Challenge
The European tourism sector, a critical economic engine and a key provider of employment across the region, faces growing vulnerability due to the escalating frequency and diversity of crises. From armed conflict and geopolitical tensions to climate-related hazards and terrorist threats, the safety and security of destinations has emerged as a core concern for governments, tourism stakeholders and travellers alike.

The Latin America and the Caribbean Indigenous Tourism Challenge
In collaboration with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), focuses on sustainable tourism initiatives that respect and enhance indigenous cultures and environments. This challenge promotes economic empowerment through sustainable business ventures, the revitalization of cultural traditions, the promotion of local indigenous gastronomy and handicrafts, and community-level tourism development. It encourages the creation of authentic tourism experiences that are both respectful and sustainable, fostering the role of tourism in the sustainable development of indigenous communities.

Défi Global d'Intelligence Artificielle de l'ONU Tourisme
Avec l’intelligence artificielle et les technologies avancées redéfinissant l'industrie du voyage, l'année 2024 représente un moment clé pour repenser le tourisme. Alors que les voyages internationaux atteignent une reprise complète, le défi se concentre sur l'utilisation de l'IA pour améliorer les services personnalisés, rationaliser les opérations et renforcer l'engagement client, en offrant des solutions évolutives avec des résultats mesurables.

UN Tourism Open Innovation Challenge France: Collaborations between French Travel Tech Startups and Large Tourism Companies
Organized by UN Tourism and the Ministry of Economy, Finance, and Industry, the Open Innovation Challenge France aims to reward the best collaborations between travel tech startups and large companies. The Challenge brings together travel tech startups, large corporations, public institutions, investors, and the academic community.

The Community Tourism Innovation Challenge in Colombia

The initiative not only seeks to spur innovation and growth within the sector but also ensures that the selected projects significantly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. This approach aims to enhance the quality of life for local communities and promote responsible, sustainable tourism practices in Colombia. The challenge and the final event are designed to foster the creation of innovative initiatives and strengthen competitive strategies, promotion, and marketing of community-linked tourism enterprises.

Green Projects Innovation Challenge

Technology has become a driven tool for all travelers and tourism businesses. In the Arab region, 34% of tech focused startups were founded by women, and 57% of science technology, engineering, and math (STEM) graduates are women.

Competition for Innovative Experiences in Community Tourism in Panama
The World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) launched the Competition for Innovative Community Tourism Experiences with the objective of developing new marketable and sustainable tourism experiences that highlight the natural and cultural heritage of Panama, as well as the authenticity of our local communities, improving the quality of life of its residents.

Mega Events and MICE Tourism
The World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) is seeking sustainable and innovative entrepreneurs who can provide SMART solutions for mega events and MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). Mega events, which are large-scale events with global impact, can attract visitors, draw attention to destinations, and contribute to short-term economic and social benefits.

Hospitality Challenge
With modern society immersed in an unprecedent situation, The Hospitality Challenge is a global call aiming to receive projects that can help hospitality sector reboot. Now, as the industry restarts, this competition is designed to identify ideas and individuals capable of accelerating recovery while promoting inclusivity and sustainability in the sector to invent the hospitality of tomorrow.
The 30 finalists will be eligible for full scholarships in 15 different programmes in Hospitality, Culinary and Pastry Arts Management, (Bachelors, Masters, MBAs) offered in the world-class academic institutions of Sommet Education: Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland and London, Les Roches Crans-Montana in Switzerland, Les Roches Marbella in Spain and École Ducasse in France.
Among the 30 winners, the top three most innovative entrepreneurial projects will be granted funding to support their initial development by Eurazeo, leading global investment group from which Sommet Education is a portfolio Company.

Smart Solutions for Smart Destinations Challenge
The World Tourism Organization together with Athletic Club of Bilbao and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia have launched the Smart Solutions for Smart Destinations Challenge to drive innovation and promote entrepreneurship in tourism.
This new challenge is designed for startups with innovative and intelligent ideas to maximize the visitor experience in stadiums or at events. All solutions must facilitate the entire tourist experience, including before and after an event not just during it.
In particular, the competition is looking for ideas whose benefits will be felt throughout the wider Bizkaia region, complementing the work of Athletic Club.
The winning startups will be given the chance to work alongside Athletic Club for six months to develop a pilot project.

Healing Solutions for Tourism Challenge
UNWTO received over 1,000 applications from over 100 countries for the Healing Solutions for Tourism Challenge, launched to identify the most disruptive startups, entrepreneurs and drive solutions to mitigate COVID-19’s impact on tourism.

UN Tourism INSPIRATION AFRICA BRANDING CHALLENGE
The UN Tourism Inspiring Africa - Branding Challenge gathered key actors from the marketing and branding sector to present their proposals for a campaign that positions Africa as a destination in the minds of travellers.

2nd UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition (powered by Wakalua)

The 2nd UNWTO Tourism Startup Competition gathered over 1700 applications from 150 countries, reaching 12 more nationalities than the previous edition. The format was based on 6 categories, such as: smart mobility, rural development, disruptive hospitality, smart destinations, deep tech applied to geolocalization, and innovative tourism solutions. Each of them was supported by a corporate partner who was actively involved in the selection process. Thus far, entrepreneurs have evolved towards more scalable business models, greater focus on the Sustainable Development Goals and disruptive solutions based on state-of-the-art technologies, highlighting the use of Cloud Front Backend Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Internet-of-Things. The Final was held in Madrid on 20 January 2020 and presented the winners of each vertical and the most exciting tourism insights from international experts.
1st UN Tourism Gastronomy Tourism Startup Competition (powered by Basque Culinary Center)

This competition was designed to track the most innovative startups in gastronomy tourism, which merges the best of travelling with the intangible heritage of the destinations. It gathered over 300 submissions from 80 countries with finalists representing Italy, Spain, Israel, the Czech Republic and Japan. These finalists presented their proposals in San Sebastián, Spain on 3 May 2019 within the framework of the 5th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism.
1st UN Tourism Sports Tourism Startup Competition (powered by Barca Innovation Hub)

Participants came up with solutions ranging from new technologies, community-based tourism development platforms, software initiatives and innovation-driven sports tech projects. This first edition was launched in the framework of World Tourism Day 2018 and gathered over 3,000 applications representing 133 countries. Its Final was held on the International Tourism Fair 2019 (Fitur) and its winning start-up was the Israeli-based Refundit, which got a funding of 25 € millions from Amadeus Ventures.
